Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Well, tomorrow night we are expecting our first real amount of measurable snow. And, wouldn't you know it, I'm "babysitting" my nephews, not that this fact is bad, but the last time my sister and brother-in-law went out when I was watching them when it was snowing I left the minivan stuck at the bottom of the driveway. As I said in a previous blog entry I don't mind the snow especially when it falls in that nice fluffy way it does and makes a lovely scene like this barn that is down the road from us. I love the quiet walks in the snow at night when the snow sort of crunches under your feet. It will be nice because I have not had a night with my nephews in a while because they're always so busy. My plan is to have our regular "movie night" at Aunt Marti's house. Hopefully we'll be able to watch something we all agree on! And, hopefully it won't be Sportscenter (for more than 15 minutes anyway)!
On another note, sorry for not entering a blog in a while. We've been busy decorating the house for the holidays and it does take me some time to get everything pulled out and put up! Pictures to come!
Winter Sky

As I was trying to help my sister and brother-in-law cook on Thanksgiving my husband came in and told me to come look at the sky. This is not an every night experience in the midwest, but fortunately, it's the type of sky we do frequently see! Many times Dennis and I can look out our front door and see this sunset. How lucky we are to have it! This week we expect some snow to possibly accumulate. Now, that part of winter I don't like. I'm not thrilled about driving in the snow. I once flipped a pick up truck one winter day on the way back to the University of Iowa, and as I shared that story with my nephew, it was, of course, when I was going somewhere I was not supposed to be! That's what usually happened to me. When I was doing something I was not supposed to be doing, something bad usually happened. Karma baby! Now my biggest challenge is traveling down Baseline Road (6 straight miles with nothing but cornfields) with it's drifting snow. On a particularly snowy day I have been known to chant "just let me get to the stop sign, just let me get to the stop sign)
But, what I do like about winter...the way the farms (on my way to work) look with the snow drifting, they look so desolate. I like snuggling with the fire going and watching a great movie. I like throwing ears of corn out for the deer who cruise through my yard every day. I enjoy finding the spots in the snow where they lay down (right under my tree). And I enjoy watching how the environment starts to change when spring approaches. Winter certainly helps you appreciate spring and summer!
